What Is Custom Cornea?

CustomCornea® is the first laser vision correction advancement to not just reshape your cornea based on your prescription, but to customize the procedure to your eyes and your eyes alone. It can also help with other vision problems that could not previously be detected. These vision problems can be responsible for glare and halos at night and in low-light conditions. CustomCornea® is the first and only laser vision correction that is FDA approved to aid in correcting these problems.

The CustomCornea procedure involves three steps.

1) Capture. This is the LADARwave™ wavefront step. This step creates a wavefront map of each eye; a safe beam of laser light is shone into the eye and it measures the reflected light waves as they pass through and exit your eye.

2) Match. During this step, the wavefront map is entered into the laser system. When the patient is ready for the procedure to begin, the map is matched precisely with the eye's exact position through the computer. CustomCornea customizes the treatment because each eye has its own unique wavefront map.

3) Treat. In this step, the cornea is reshaped using the excimer laser guided by the information from the wavefront map.
