Cataract Center

A cataract is a progressive clouding of the eye’s natural lens that interferes with light passing through to the retina. Sufferers usually describe the condition as being similar to looking through a waterfall, or a piece of wax paper, with a gradual blurring or dimming of vision.

Reading may become more difficult, and driving a car can actually become dangerous. Cataract suffers may also be troubled by a bothersome glare, halos, around lights, or even double vision. And, as the cataract becomes worse, frequent changes in eyeglasses prescriptions may become necessary.

Currently there is no medical treatment to reverse or prevent the development of cataracts. Once they are formed, there is only one way to achieve clear vision again, and that is to physically remove the cataract from inside the eye and replace it with an artificial intraocular lens.

Dr. Mielcarek is a leader in the area on using the latest advancements in Intraocular lenses. Before these advancements vision could be corrected for distance, but patients would still require reading glasses. The new lenses, such as Acrysof reSTOR, Crtystalens, SofPort®, and AcrySof Toric allow you to be less dependent on glasses, and enjoy more freedom when it comes to your vision.

Only Dr. Mielcarek and you can decide when it is time for cataract surgery, and which type of intraocular lens is right for your eyes and your lifestyle. Schedule an appointment to discuss all of the available options for you.

Eileen Dickson Mielcarek holds bi-weekly informational seminars explaining how cataract surgery is performed, what to expect, the differences between the advanced lenses, and any other questions or concerns regarding your care. The seminars are free and are held at our offices in Media, PA. The next seminars are on the following dates. Please call to reserve your spot:
