How do I get High Definition vision?

A person needs corrective eyeglass lenses when light entering the eye does not focus correctly on the back of the retina. Ordinary eyeglass lenses bend the light as it is reflected into your eyes and changes the way the image hits your retina to give you clearer vision. Standard corrective eyeglass lenses do a good job of correcting lower order aberrations like nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, and presbyopia. Only about 80% of the light that enters your visual system is being corrected for in your current eyeglass lenses. Using the Wavefront guided iZon machine, Dr. Mielcarek, Dr. Casado, Dr. Feinberg, and Dr. Alexander use a safe, low contrast beam of light to reflect off the retina and measure the higher order abberations and imperfections we all have on the surfaces of our eye. Patients who choose to receive Wavefront guided LASIK surgery will have similar measurements taken and corrected for during surgery.

Your eyes are different from everyone else's eyes, and have their own unique optical fingerprint called "iprint." Using the custom Wavefront measurements from the iZon machine, and your new eyeglass prescription, our state of the art lab creates a customized eyeglass lens fit for you and your eyes only. Depending on the individual, your new iZon eyeglass lenses can correct for the other 20% of the light entering your visual system not being addressed in standard eyeglass lenses. Besides custom making your eyeglass lenses to correct for your higher order aberrations, iZon inserts their patented and customized izonik gel into the middle of the lens to further increase the overall clarity of your vision and improve nighttime driving. Because we are able to correct for more than just your prescription, your vision will become sharper and clearer, with improved colors and contrast, as well as reduced glare during nighttime driving. This is the world of high definition vision.

What are higher order abberations?

Higher Order Abberations (HOA) refers to the normal imperfections on the surface of the cornea or retina. Not everyone's eyes are completely smooth and round - we all have microscopic irregularities and imperfections that occur. Recent advancements in LASIK surgery has allowed us to measure the higher order abberations using Wavefront guided machines. During Wavefront LASIK surgery Dr. Mielcarek can correct for the HOA and give the patient sharper vision than standard LASIK. Using that same advanced technology, iZon lenses address and correct for the HOA of a person's eyes and can offer the same sharp, crystal clear vision as Wavefront LASIK patients. iZon eyeglass lenses are the most advanced lenses on the market, and the only lenses to measure and address your eye's higher order abberations. There truly are no other lenses available that come close to the clear and vivid vision our patients receive with iZon lenses.

In nighttime driving tests, using an FDA validated night driving simulator, iZon High Resolution Lenses significantly improved nighttime driving performance over conventional glasses. iZon wearers driving at 55 mph under glare conditions were able to detect, recognize and react to a pedestrian in the road on average 20 feet faster.* This represents a significant safety margin, and quite possibly, the difference between life and death.
